NEW BROCHURE, NEW SHOWS
The Galtres Entertainment Centre in Easingwold has just launched its new brochure covering all the exciting events planned up to Christmas, with the added bonus of the cinema on the second Wednesday in the month, starting in September.
The new brochure has been mailed to all customers of the Centre and is also available from the foyer.
Starting on Wednesday, August 11th at 7:30pm with Noel Coward’s two plays, “Mild Oats” and “Still Life”, later to become the classic film “Brief Encounters” and will follow the doomed love affair of Alec and Laura, and the wonderful piano music of Rachmaninoff played live on stage.
More drama follows on September 10th when the Stephen Joseph Theatre Company from Scarborough present their lunch time plays from their summer repertoire “A Number” and “Twenty:20”
The former, written by Caryl Churchill, in which a son confronts his father. Ah, but is this the true son and not one of a possible 21 clones?
The second play tells the story of ace Yorkshire batsman Rick Fielding who has been called up at the eleventh hour to face the old enemy: Australia. The problem is Rick is a star of ‘Twenty:20’ cricket and has never played a test match in his life!.
Can he possibly squeeze a match winning innings between a celebrity photo shoot for “Hello” and the final of Strictly Come Dancing.
Saturday, September 18th at 2:30pm and the Centre welcomes TV personality, ex MP and member of the Government, actor, countless game show appearances, great wit and raconteur, Gyles Brandreth, tickets for this ‘Audience with’ show are £18.
The story of Beatrix Potter on October 22nd at 7:30pm is told in a one woman presentation by Rohan McCullough, who can forget her portrayal of Clementine Churchill last year, and returns to tell the story of her connection with the National Trust from its inception, her children’s stories, her solitary childhood, and an unlikely, but happy marriage.
If illustrated talks on various subjects is your liking then Wednesday, October 20th the third of the Vulcan presentations will take place, described with the help of photographs by the pilot who bombed the runway in the Falkland Isles, Martin Withers, then on November 5th an illustrated talk by Alan Mawby on RAF Linton-on-Ouse and its involvement in the Second World War.
To continue the war theme, a talk by the leading expert on the German code machine, the Enigma, Dr. Mark Baldwin, on October 6th, with an actual machine on display, and its connections with the code breakers at Bletchley Park.
Music is not missed from the programme of coming events when on September 25th, the Three Tenors ,“Tenorissimo” perform a varied programme from opera to songs from the shows, and on October 16th a first for the Galtres, a performance by a classical orchestra, the Harrogate Philharmonic, playing two works by Mozart, Schubert, and Faure’s Pavane.
The pop scene is not left out as on October 1st at 8pm. the music of Queen is revived when every one of their greatest hits will be played.
