Between the war years, the Whittaker's estate is sinking, with only the iron will of Mrs. Whittaker staving off bankruptcy, while she awaits her son John's return from the continent.

January 23rd, this time at 7:30pm only, it is a trip to the opera to see Bizet's "Carmen", starring Placido Domingo and Julia Migenes, billed as the sexiest Carmen ever seen.
All the passion and spectacle of Carmen comes to life in this film shot entirely in Andalusian Spain, and tells the story of the lusty, but tempestuous girl who seduces a naïve Army corporal, Don Jose, and who abandons his career, his fiancée, and even his dying mother for the love of the sultry gypsy.
But she soon spurns him for the love of a toreador, Escamillo, despite Jose begging her to return to him.
Great music that everyone recognises.
