Welcome to the Easingwold Galtres Entertainment Centre!
Formed in 2008 after using the original Community Centre buildings for many years, the new facility has been designed to suit the needs of a modern community with state of the art equipment and fittings to enable high quality performances from speakers, theatre groups and musians alike.
The Centre is run by local Volunteers who act as trustees, actors, maintenance personel, helping with props, and most of all, helping with tickets, ushering and cleaning on the night of perfpormances - before the event and tidying up after everyone has gone home. The Centre would not be possible without them!

A VARIED PROGRAMME!
Continuing its strategy of providing entertainment for everyone, the Galtres Centre embarks on a war theme for some future presentations and also a complete contrast, the Grumbleweeds and fun!
The war theme is provided by a talk on RAF Linton-on-Ouse and its role during the second world war by Wing Commander Alan Mawby, who is in charge of the memorial room at the base and takes place on Friday, November 5th at 7:30pm tickets on sale now price £8 for adults and £5 for children, available from the Galtres box office, telephone 01347 822472, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm with credit card bookings accepted.
The illustrated talk will cover the involvement of the base and the bomber attacks on Germany, and a history of what and who were at the base, and the sorties they dangerously flew.
Alan has the details of all the raids that were made on Germany and the evening promises to be exciting and informative.
From the proceeds of the evening a donation will be made to the RAF Benevolent Fund/RAF Linton memorial room.
Continuing the war theme on October 6th, at 7:30pm. Dr. Mark Baldwin will present a two hour programme based on the code breakers at Bletchley Park and especially the Enigma machine, the machine the Germans used for coding messages and which the Allies had to decipher.
Dr Baldwin has made a detailed study of the Enigma, the work at Bletchley and the part played by the German U-Boats, and has built up a unique collection of slides which illustrate the main features of those important facts of the Second World
War, complete with an Enigma machine for demonstration.

Carrying on the war theme, and October 20th will see Martin Withers, pilot of the Vulcan bomber that bombed the Falkland Islands, telling the story of the wonderful achievement of the flight, the logistics, excitement and all round 'boys own' epic.
So popular have these talks been in the past, this will be the third talk, each time to a full house.

Loosely based on the Gospel of St. Matthew, but it is not in essence a religious play, it is primarily about the formation of a community that follows and adheres to a basic moral code.
Just a few of the shows coming to the Galtres Centre including two fun packed evenings, firstly, with the Grumbleweeds on November 4th presenting a full two hour show for all the family, and October 27th and especially for lovers of the wit and humour of Joyce Grenfell in "George...Don't do That".

Then it is back for August 11th and two plays by Noel Coward, Mild Oats, and Brief Encounter, which will feature, just like the film, Rachmaninov's piano concerto played live whilst the action is taking place on the stage.
The drama aspect is a visit by the Stephen Joseph Theatre Company from Scarborough on September 10th at 7:30pm who will present two plays from their summer repertoire, and are their lunch-time plays presented at the resort this year.

The first part of the evening is given over to what are quite often irreverent anecdotal reminiscences, ably supported by excellent images.
The second part of the evening is devoted to the audience's 'treasures', twenty five of which have been selected by Eric during the initial meeting and greeting session earlier to talk about and value. Could Easingwold have a hidden treasure, worth thousands?
