Hazelwood Farm

DESCRIPTION

Hazelwood Farm Bed and Breakfast

Enjoying uninterrupted views across the Vale of York, Hazelwood Farm is peacefully situated just outside the village of Crayke, 14 miles north of York, and 11 miles south of Thirsk. The local area is steeped in history and has an abundance of beautiful walks, cycle routes, and numerous award-winning inns and restaurants nearby.

The main farmhouse was constructed in 1893, with the modern guest annexe completed in July 2006. The three bedrooms are all en-suite, with the family/superior double or twin room having the added advantage of being on the ground floor and with direct access to the south facing terrace.

Hazelwood FarmhouseThe lovely and peaceful view from Hazelwood Farm!

Breakfast is served in our south facing dining room and in summer, (weather permitting, of course!) can be served out on the terrace. We try to source as many of our ingredients as locally as possible, with the pork for the sausages actually being produced on the farm next door !

A varied selection of tempting choices is offered on the breakfast buffet daily including fresh fruits, croissants, cereals, porridge, yoghurts and fruit juices. A full cooked Yorkshire breakfast is cooked to order and is guaranteed to set our guests up for the day!

Whilst enjoying breakfast, you may be able to see pheasants strutting proudly in the fields, partridge pecking in the garden, hares boxing or scurrying across the fields, or if you\'re lucky enough, the 3 deer which live nearby enjoying the morning sun.

It's a fact

Sqdn Ldr. Jack Currie was a famous WW2 bomber pilot who lived in our area. Some time after leaving the RAF he got a job as an instructor with the Home Office Defence School situated at Hawk Hills, Easingwold. During these post war years he decided to write his memoirs of his wartime experience as a pilot of a Lancaster Bomber. This book had the title of \"Lancaster Target\" which became very popular and sold in the thousands. He wrote this book whilst visiting the George Hotel in Easingwold in the evening whilst enjoying a pint. Sadly he died much too soon and is now at laid at rest in Easingwold church cemetery where one can view his unusual gravestone which mentions the fact that he was a famous wartime pilot and author. His funeral service was attended by hundreds of people, including the members of the BBC who produced a film of him being interviewed in respect of his wartime period when he was stationed at Wickenby in Lincolnshire.
