VISIT Easingwold- Yorkshire at its best

Easingwold CinemaA Cinema on your doorstep!

Once upon a time, the cinema in the market town of Easingwold was based in the imposing Victorian Town Hall in the centre of the Market Place which is now home to GH Smith and Son, national provider of design and print media.

Times have moved on, and now the cinema operates from The Galtres Centre using state of the art projection and sound equipment and is importantly based in the new theatre which is fully set up with comfortable tiered seating providing excellent screen viewing.

The 14 feet square screen and superb sound has now made the centre a popular venue to come and see a film. Warm surroundings with a bar for refreshments before and after the performance - and the chance to leave your car at home!

Film shows take place monthly on a Wednesday and a varied programme has been arranged for the next few months.

Ticket prices: Adult £4.50 Children £3.00. Available from The Galtres Centre Box Office 01347 822472, or on the door.

Jane Eyre

Romantic drama starring Mia Masikowska as Jane Eyre and Michael Fassbender as Mr Rochester based on the novel of the same name by Charlotte Bronte.

Filmed on location in London and Derbyshire, the story is largely presented by way of flashbacks with the Gothic elements of the classic novel played up showing the darker side of what has usually been treated as a period romance.

Oranges and Sunshine

A film directed by Jim Loach, it tells the story of Margaret Humphreys a social worker from Nottingham, played by Emily Watson, who uncovered the social scandal of “home children”, a scheme of forced migration of poor children from the UK to Australia and Canada, where the deported children were promised oranges and sunshine but in fact got hard labour and life in institutions.

Margaret holds the British government accountable and strives to re-unite families against overwhelming odds and with little regard for her own well-being.

It's a fact

Our lovely Village of Crayke is widely believed to be the Hill up which the Grand Old Duke of York marched his ten thousand men and then marched them down again - presumably on returning to York!
