Concentration |
A way of being able to put aside the thoughts & worries of the day & focus on allowing the mind & body to work together as you move from one flowing movement to the next. |
Breath |
The breathing in pilates is different to the way we breath normally as we do not breath in to abdominal area instead we focus on breathing in to the back & rib cage area Lateral thoracic breathing we also breath in through the nose & out through the mouth whilst we are practicing pilates |
Centering |
All of the pilates exercises are practiced with the main focus on the core or centre by using the correct movement & contraction the power that is needed to perform each exercise will come from the core or centre. |
Relaxation |
Each exercise should be performed with an awareness of any tension that builds up & how to release that tension to allow each move to flow into the next in a relaxed way. |
Quality |
The correct alignment of the body & mastering of the techniques with in pilates is the key to the quality execution of the movement. |
Flowing movement |
Each movement should be performed in a relaxed, slow, controlled, continues movement using concentric & eccentric phase |
Awareness |
Pilates is an on going process & as every one is individual, we need to be aware of our body & be able to listen to it. |
Stamina |
Continual practice & increasing the amount of repetions we perform will help to strengthen the body & increase the stamina. |
If you are not involved in Pilates and would like some more information, come and talk to Julie or visit some informative British websites on the subject.

What is Exercise on Referral?
Exercise on referral aims to build confidence in making regular exercise part of a healthy lifestyle. The exercise on referral scheme provides the opportunity of fully supervised, structured physical activity within the Galtres Fitness Centre.
Anyone over the age of 16 can take part as long as they have been referred by a participating medical professional.
The scheme
Follows a structured programme of physical activity, exercise instruction and weight management
What happens next?
Once you have spoken to your GP or practice nurse and they have confirmed that you are eligible for the scheme they will issue you with a referral form. You will then need to contact the Galtres Fitness Centre to book for a pre-exercise health assessment. You will also have an opportunity to discuss any queries you may have about the program.
