VISIT Easingwold- Yorkshire at its best

The Hermitage

DESCRIPTION

The Hermitage is set in a large attractive garden on the edge of the pretty village of Crayke, which has its own long and interesting history.

Our home offers peaceful and comfortable accommodation a short distance from our 270 acre arable farm and has wonderful uninterrupted views from the White Horse at Kilburn over the Howardian Hills 'area of outstanding natural beauty' and across to the Yorkshire Wolds.

Crayke is well placed for touring much of Yorkshire and is only two miles from the A19. The City of York is only a 20 minute drive away, the North Yorkshire Moors, reputed to be one of the finest moorland areas in England are 15 miles north. The Yorkshire Dales to the west was the location for James Herriot's 'All Creatures Great and Small'. All over Yorkshire you will find castles, ruined monasteries, historic country houses, museums, local crafts and pretty villages.

We offer the visitor a peaceful haven and one double/family room (en suite shower) and two twin bedded rooms with wash basin and guest bathroom. Oh, and did we mention our Hot Tub on the patio?

We use locally sourced produce on the breakfast menu whenever we can and are happy to meet any special dietary requirements given notice. Lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at a selection of restaurants and pubs only a short drive from the house. Try The Durham Ox, the AA pub of the year 2007 for example!

You can plan your days with maps, leaflets or your laptop – sitting downstairs overlooking the garden or on the garden! We look forward to welcoming you to our home!

It's a fact

Sqdn Ldr. Jack Currie was a famous WW2 bomber pilot who lived in our area. Some time after leaving the RAF he got a job as an instructor with the Home Office Defence School situated at Hawk Hills, Easingwold. During these post war years he decided to write his memoirs of his wartime experience as a pilot of a Lancaster Bomber. This book had the title of \"Lancaster Target\" which became very popular and sold in the thousands. He wrote this book whilst visiting the George Hotel in Easingwold in the evening whilst enjoying a pint. Sadly he died much too soon and is now at laid at rest in Easingwold church cemetery where one can view his unusual gravestone which mentions the fact that he was a famous wartime pilot and author. His funeral service was attended by hundreds of people, including the members of the BBC who produced a film of him being interviewed in respect of his wartime period when he was stationed at Wickenby in Lincolnshire.
